About me
I’m Kate, a Person-Centred and Experiential counsellor, currently completing my MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Liverpool John Moores University.I’ve worked with people experiencing anxiety, trauma, addiction, neurodiversity and a range of other life experiences across university, community and educational settings. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent over 17 years working in education as an Art and Photography teacher. This experience has given me a strong understanding of child development, SEND and safeguarding, as well as many years of working alongside children, young people and families. It has also shaped the way I understand people, relationships and the different experiences that can influence how we see ourselves and the world around us.I’m naturally curious about people and the stories that have shaped them. I appreciate that not everything we experience is easy to put into words, and where it feels helpful, I can incorporate gentle creative approaches into our work, always led by you and what feels comfortable.
My work is rooted in:• Genuine and Authentic relationships• Compassion• Empowerment• Anti-oppressive practice• Neuro-affirming care• Creativity• Respect for each person’s unique experiences and strengths
'Wholeness does not mean perfection: it means becoming more real by acknowledging the whole of who I am.' Parker Palmer
How do I work ?
I believe that change can happen when we feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted. As a Person-Centred and Experiential counsellor, I won’t tell you what you should do or try to give you quick answers. Instead, I’ll work alongside you, offering a calm, accepting space where you can explore what you’re going through at your own pace.I understand that everyone’s experiences are different. Who we are, the relationships we have, and the world around us can all affect how we feel and how we make sense of our lives. I work in a way that respects your individuality, identity and the things that are important to you. Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable enough to be yourself. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come to counselling. We can start exactly where you are.
